Entry 4 How Will You Measure Your Life?

This week's topic of "How Will You Measure Your Life" centers on the principle of beginning with the end in mind as Covey phrased it. What is most important to you? What kinds of relationships do you want to have, and what do you want them to look like? One of the articles this week talked about many successful people that began with bright futures but along the way focused so much on their careers and making money that their relationships with family members and even their integrity in some cases was sacrificed in the pursuit of success and money.      The author of the article " How Will You Measure Your Life " Clayton M. Christensen said; "your decisions about allocating your personal time, energy, and talent ultimately shape your life's strategy." The decisions about what is most important to you is key in determining what your priorities are. Christensen shared how during a very busy time of his life he spent an hour every night devoted...

Entry 3 Make a Living and a Life

This week the talk by Elder Lynn G Robbins "Make a living and a life" keeps coming to my mind. He shared many things that resonated with me and impressed my mind. I liked the how he spent quite about of time talking about motives and what drive us, of this he said; " The motives that drive people are the hinges upon which major outcomes swing." He then went on to talk about how we can either serve God or Mammon, while making money is not a bad thing the most important factor is where our hearts are and what they are centered on. Do we love God or money more? Elder Robbins goes on to break down the different motivations into primary and secondary motivations and then gives them grades descending with “Grade A” being a love of God and fellowmen as the primary motivation and Income as the secondary motivation. I will focus primarily on Grade A. Jacob 2:18-19 illustrates this well; “Before you seek for riches, see...

Entry 2 Randy Pausch Final Speech

Why do you think Randy Pausch was able to achieve so many of his childhood dreams? Randy grew up in a home where his dreams were seen as realities, where he wasn't limited. I love that his parents let him paint mathematic equations on his wall because it inspired him.      He also never lost sight of his visions and values, and wasn't deterred by set backs he even said he saw experience as "what you get when you don't get what you wanted." When he hit walls he didn't give up but worked even harder to show why he was the right candidate and he worked harder to prove it.  Do you feel that dreaming is important? Why or why not? Yes I see dreaming as important because without a dream or vision there is no real motivation in life, nothing to feel passionate and alive about, nothing to work hard to accomplish.  Discuss at least one of your childhood dreams. Explain why you believe you can or cannot achieve this dreams. One of my childhood dreams was to visit Africa ...

Entry 1 The Start up of You

January 9, 2021        Of all the things I studied this week I was most interested in the ideas and principles in the  article entitled "The Start up of You, Executive Summary" so that is what I will focus this blog post on. The article stated that everyone in every career is an entrepreneur, which  Their rationale is that we're all "at the helm of at least one living, growing start-up venture (our) careers." (Hoffman and Casnocha.)        The article goes on to list ways that we can continue to improve ourselves and our entrepreneurial  skills. I liked how it brought up being aware of what we bring to the table, and then sharpening those skills. As far as practical solutions I found the section on networking particularly interesting as I know that is an area that I am weak in. The authors specifically mentioned LinkedIn and ways to strengthen relationships and expand your network. It finally clicked to me why those networks a...
