Entry 4 How Will You Measure Your Life?

This week's topic of "How Will You Measure Your Life" centers on the principle of beginning with the end in mind as Covey phrased it. What is most important to you? What kinds of relationships do you want to have, and what do you want them to look like? One of the articles this week talked about many successful people that began with bright futures but along the way focused so much on their careers and making money that their relationships with family members and even their integrity in some cases was sacrificed in the pursuit of success and money.

The author of the article "How Will You Measure Your Life" Clayton M. Christensen said; "your decisions about allocating your personal time, energy, and talent ultimately shape your life's strategy." The decisions about what is most important to you is key in determining what your priorities are. Christensen shared how during a very busy time of his life he spent an hour every night devoted to praying, reading and pondering on his purpose in life. He credited that to being key for him in knowing what paths to take in his life.

To answer the question of what I am looking forward to learning and experiencing it is finding what my God given purpose is in this life and knowing how to achieve it. This week especially I feel I was given the tools to know how to do this, the “formula” as taught in the book “Launching Leaders” while simple I found powerful. The steps in “The Formula” are 1. Get Up Early, 2. Work Hard, 3. Get Your Education, 4, Find Your Oil, 5. Mark Your Mark, 6. Give Back. Though it will be a stretch for me to follow the principles, especially the early mornings I am looking forward to gaining answers and direction to have a more meaningful and focused life.
