Entry 6 So you want to be an entrepreneur

This week's studies were about the habits, characteristics, skills, and mindsets that successful entrepreneurs possess. I found it interesting that the emphasis was on the balance needed to be a tremendously successful entrepreneur.

I liked the video called "Loyalty to God and Family" by Jan Newman. He talks about how loyalty to God and our family relationships must be our top priorities, and that our time must be allocated so they get top preference and then we should add in work, and then fun things in our spare time. So often though God and our familial relationships are the first places time is taken from when our lives get very full and yet to truly succeed that must be the areas we never sacrifice. He said that our greatest legacies will be our families and the service we give in the Lord's vineyard. Newman shared how in a calculus class he was taking in college the professor acknowledged that many in the class were likely making good money or would, then he said, "you make think the Lord has put your here to make money and that is what He wants from you when actually He wants you to do your Home Teaching." Our careers and the money we make only matters in the eternal scheme of things if it enables us to fulfill the missions, we were sent to this life to fulfill.

The talk “Success is gauged by Self-Mastery” by N. Eldon Tanner I found particularly interesting. He talked about how if we can not master ourselves, we will never have true success. Of this he quoted da Vinci  who once said: “You will never have a greater or lesser dominion than that over yourself.” Then he goes on to say that “the height of a man’s success is gauged by his self-mastery; the depth of his failure by his self-abandonment. … And this law is the expression of eternal justice. He who cannot establish dominion over himself will have no dominion over others.”

What powerful principles, these quotes cause me to reflect on where I am in my self-mastery and what areas I can improve in today.
